Common Cat Diseases



The cats are amazing pets, not only for their attractiveness and fur but also for their developed senses, such as hearing or sight. If you are the owner of one or you are thinking of receiving or adopting one, you should inform yourself of many important things, among them, about the common cat diseases that the cat can suffer.

But do not forget that the best way to prevent any disease is to meet the dates of vaccination and keep up the vet visits.

Among the most common diseases of cats are:


Otitis

An inflammation of the auditory canal is very common in dogs, but also in kittens and adult cats. It can generate pain and, in more extreme cases, the loss of hearing. It is usually caused by the presence of parasites, fungi or bacteria. If your cat has otitis, you will recognize it by the discomfort it shows when scratching or the number of times it does. There are many medicines to attack this disease we recommend the following, but as always consult your veterinarian.

Conjunctivitis

It is one of the most frequent problems in cats that can occur at any age. It is the inflammation of the mucosa of the eye. The cat can lose sight if it is not diagnosed and treated in time. It can be caused by eye infections, allergies, diseases, dirt from the environment, trauma or genetic problems. You will detect that your feline has conjunctivitis due to excess of legañas, tearing or opacity of the cornea.

Gastrointestinal disorders

Diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, loss of appetite or weakness, are several of the symptoms of this disease that affects our pet, especially young specimens. It usually occurs when the cat ingests food in poor condition, although it can also be caused by a bacterial infection, a virus or by the presence of parasites. If you suspect this disease, go to the veterinarian urgently.

Cystitis

As with people, the urinary system is more problematic as the cat ages. Minerals are formed that obstruct the urinary tract, which causes pain when urinating, much thirst, the total absence of urination, licking of the urinary tract, vomiting or urinating in a place other than the sandbox. There is a treatment to eliminate minerals and the cat also has to follow a special diet.


Allergies

Did you know that cats can also have allergies? As it happens to us, cats can also be allergic to many different things, the most common are: plants, pollen, fungi, perfumes, cleaning products, tobacco smoke, fleas, some foods and, even humans. Your cat will have an allergy when it identifies the following symptoms: coughing, sneezing, runny nose, eye discharge, itchy nose, itchy eyes, lack of hair, skin infections, vomiting and, diarrhea.
